The Gardens of Spain

20 days fully escorted in April 2013 with a small group.

Highlights include:

– Visiting private gardens that are not easily accessed by the general public.

– The private gardens of Eduardo Mencos that have been inspired by art and nature.  Eduardo is one of Spain’s most notable garden designers, photographer and author of several books including;  Hidden Gardens of Spain, Royal Gardens of Spain and his most recent book is Spain in Light and Shadow, a display of the most spectacular and unique landscapes to be found in Spain. His gardens have appeared in the books including 1001 Gardens You Must See Before You Die by Rae Spencer-Jones.

– The famous private garden owned by Count Juan Martinez de las Rivas, called San Segundo in Avila. The garden is part of the longest city wall in all of Europe and was designed by the Spanish master Javier de Winthuysen in the 1920’s. Count Juan is quite remarkable; he is also a physician, author and passionate gardener.

– Cultural visits to the Prado museum in Madrid, the works of Gaudi in Barcelona, the Alhambra in Grenada, a cooking demonstration with local produce and there will be spare time to add to the Spanish economy to eat, drink and go shopping!
